Cognitive Conditioning

A process in which a stimulus is repeatedly paired with an imagined or anticipated response or behavior. Being able to process information quickly and create the proper response can be the difference in winning or losing, for a first responder this can be the difference between living or dying. Training these responses will strengthen them just as a squat strengthens the legs. Utilize the Shulte's Table and Stroop Effect below to best suit you in your specific task.

Schulte Table

Schulte Tables are used for improving peripheral vision, attention and memory. Accordingly, they help to learn quick reading, to easily find the right information in the text and develop the mental resilience needed for  external distractions while working. Boards can have a high degree of variables including background color of each number, direction of each number, size of board, specific set of numbers, using letters, adding cones or frames for an Eye:Foot or Eye:Hand Coordination.

Tasks to consider:

  • Numerical order (Ascending/Descending)
  • Numerical order touch color (cone or frame)
  • Close One Eye
  • Look over one shoulder
  • Stander Closer/Further

Stroop Effect

The Stroop test presents incongruent information to subjects by having the color of a word differ from the word printed. The Stroop test can be used to measure a person’s selective attention capacity and skills, processing speed, and alongside other tests to evaluate overall executive processing abilities. Variables to consider can be layered in to create further complexity. Boards can have a high degree of variables including background color of each word, direction of each word, size of board, specific set of colors, adding cones or frames for an Eye:Foot or Eye:Hand Coordination.

Tasks to consider:

  • Say the Word for 1 row then Say the Color of the Word the next row
  • Say the Color then touch the Word (cone or frame) - alternate every other row
  • Close One Eye
  • Look over one shoulder
  • Stander Closer/Further
